UR FAVORITE’S FAVORITE

01/28/23

It’s WLW open mic time! It’s my second time performing at this event and I did what needed to be done! That first performance was a loooong set. I did four songs! This time, I decided to just do two songs: NICE GUY and NEW KICKS.

The Look:

My main piece was my Rainbow Bright jacket from Attic Salt. My mom and I have matching ones cause we both love Rainbow Bright. That show was a big part of her childhood and she passed that down to me. We had to get it, man.

My skirt is thrifted and cut by yours truly. The heart purse is from Forever 21; it’s a crossbody, but I freaked it into a fanny pack :)

My fur hat is from Kiwi Beauty Supply in Arlington. I wasn’t going to wear the hat at first, but I’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear it. I figured since it matched my jacket and shoes + it was cold outside that that’s a solid reason. I think it worked out pretty well.

Then, we got the royal blue blocks. I’m always stocking up on royal blue and gold pieces for my sorority looks, so I was too hype to find these.

The performance:

My performance went really well. I had some technical difficulties with the mic, but everything turned out good in the end. I still did my thang, like a true sanger should! My neo, Ennairda, came to support me and that meant so much to me. S/o to E for taking the time out to cheer me on! The last open mic I was in a rush to calm my jitters after performing. I got to check out the vendors and mingle, but I didn’t get to sit and fully enjoy the performances in the audience. This time, I was able to see the other performances and I’m so glad I did! There’s so much talent in this city and at the WLW open mic. Seeing all my friends do their thing in the spotlight inspired me <3.

The Shoot:

I ended my night with a photography session in my home. I started doing my own shoots and creating graphics for them a little bit before the quarantine. I used to be the “like 4 an edit” girl on Facebook circa 2012 LOLLLL. Now, that hobby has resurfaced in my art/content.

All I got is my tripod, my one-camera I-phone, a ring light, and a dream!

When I edit, I don’t go in with a plan or concept. I just start playing around on PicsArt and see what comes out of it. The result ended up being something colorful and dope—I’m so proud of how they came out!

Best,

Janaya
