A COTTON CANDY DREAM x MY WASHINGTON AVE INTERNSHIP
04/11/19
I finally started my styling internship with the iconic Miss Kaye of Washington Ave and it’s been splendid so far! Washington Ave is a Houston based, black woman owned business that sells upcycled and vintage clothing. I got the opportunity to aid with styling and scouting models for the Spring 2019 release and I modeled for it too!
I met her at the 6th Black History Project event in late February where she happened to be a vendor and my first words to her were “Girl, I love you!”—I’ve been a fan of her work for about a year, so I got a little starstruck. We linked up again at the Blossom and Sol festival because she happened to be a panelist and I was interning for the fest. At the festival, we discussed working together once again and exchanged numbers. When we started brainstorming, she asked me to be her intern and I was thrilled. I didn’t even know there was an opening, child!
If you take anything from this story, it’s that being yourself can take you a long way. Also, God is good ALL the time.
I had fun doing this shoot! I’ve never had the opportunity to model or styled anything for a brand’s website, so it was cool to experience that. I feel inspired to do more content creation and styling for my own projects and others. I brought Jaya along for the shoot and she was a huge help with the photography and creative direction (If you’re reading this, you are appreciated sis). Hopefully, y’all will get to see more of my stylist side soon!
Sincerely,
A cotton candy queen.
