RENAISSANCE WOMAN
02/23/19
Last night was a movie and it wore me OUT, so I went on a refreshing adventure with my friends to boost my energy. I attended two events: The Blck Market Houston and the Journeys x Puma Nova shoe release party.
The first event was at the Buffalo Soldiers Museum. The Blck Market is held every first Saturday of each month and it’s a haven for black-owned businesses in Houston; Sometimes, they’ll have performances and live art happening during the market. It’s just a massive exchange of good energy; The market is a primetime place to network with black people in the Houston community—I’ve been a few times and I meet new, amazing people every time I go.
The second event was the Puma Nova sneaker release at The Space. Whoever was in charge of event decoration for this release party deserves the absolute best. I expected the event to be nice-looking, but the event planner really went in with the decor; the ceiling was decked out with balloon-filled clouds and the Nova sneakers dangled elegantly from the cloud to imitate raindrops. There was a station for attendees to get their nails done for FREE—of course, I participated. Also, they had a cute dry erase wall for people to sign their names. Most importantly there was free food, which was my favorite part. The food was (and I cannot stress this enough) spectacular. Picture this: a full plate of nachos, served by a black-owned business and a side of ice cream with a beautiful nebula of cotton candy wrapped around it. It sounds problematic for the stomach when I think about it, but I truly enjoyed myself in the food area.
Ima need for Puma to come back with another event, honey! I need a repeat of that food and the vibe.
My basics of my look consisted of my thrifted plaid blazer, my “women rule” shirt, and my iconic Minnie Mouse heels. To accessorize, I wore some shades from K2K Designs (an iconic black-owned, woman-owned business) and pins that express how badass black women are, like my “black women lead” pin from Diamonds Sanjell (another iconic black-owned, woman-owned business). I finessed my heart purse into being a fanny pack too—mission accomplished.
SN: You can catch both shops at the Blck Market!
Sincerely,
A renaissance woman.
