DEJA VU

I got nominated by my peers for two Tiger Choice awards: Most Likely to be Famous and Best Dressed. I was extremely thrilled to be nominated for both, especially Most Likely to be Famous. I've never been considered for anything other than Best Dressed, so I felt honored to be nominated for that award-- especially since my fellow nominees are go-getters that constantly secure bags.

My look was very last minute; I went thrifting on the same day and bought this dress. As I was trying to style it, I accidentally ripped one side of the dress. I decided to roll with my mistake and make it into a two-slit dress--I ended up making the slits too high and had to pair it with some shorts. I wanted my look to highlight my afrocentric side (for the culture), so I added an ankh bracelet, a choker, my "queen" earrings, and my snake shades. I love how the colors of each piece made my melanin POP.

In regards to becoming an award winner, I left the auditorium with no gold. Word on the street is that I didn't win Most Likely to be Famous, but I won Best Dressed. Many of my friends expressed how they were waiting for my name to be called, but I wasn't really concerned about receiving the physical award. I felt fulfilled enough by being a nominee and knowing that people support me on campus--my support system is the greatest award. I have enough love in me to know that I'm iconic regardless of if I have a physical accolade or not.

I appreciate everyone who voted for me and support all of my projects/concepts! Congratulations to the award winners.

See ya at the next one!

Sincerely,

Janaya the Militant.
