PRE-RICH x UFS KREATIVE COUTURE GALA

The TSU Underground Fashion Society chose to honor me with the “Style Queen of TSU” award during their 1st annual UFS week. For a shawty that serves looks for the low, it meant a lot to receive this award.

Fun fact: this wasn’t my original gala look. I was going to wear the outfit that I wore for the fashion show the night after the gala, but I was waiting on a particular piece that I ordered to complete that look and it came on the day of the show instead.

The theme was Kollege Kouture, so I decided to dedicate my look to the college kids who are broke and ballin on a budget, like myself. I’ve coined this point in my life “The Pre-rich Era”, so I wanted to express the fact that my wealth is coming SOON. My mom got this “Broke Phi Broke” shirt made for me a while back and I’ve been wanting to find an excuse to wear it—the gala became the perfect moment to debut it.

Most of my looks magically come together or at least that’s how it seems. I often put stuff together and the story line I want to convey or the theme I’ve had in mind lines up naturally. I pulled out the shirt and happened to get some buttons from Inclusive Randomness around the same time that correlated to securing the bag. My money bag purse had sat in my closet for weeks, so I finessed it from a crossbody into a clutch—I feel the most opulent when I wear my jacket over my shoulders. Moral of the story is, the look just CLICKED. I lyfted to the museum with my Kris Jenner wig and collected my things (and my fruit plate).

Thank you so much to UFS for this award. It was an honor being among such good-hearted people. I appreciate y’all for uplifting creatives on campus and giving students a safe space to be themselves. My feet are still recovering from dancing all night.
