COUNTRY š¤ COUNTRY CLUB
11/30/22
YEEHAW or whateva the gworls be sayin! Weāve got another UFS week look for you. The category? Country v.s. Country Club. The goal is to either dress country (Think: Cowboy boots, overalls, flannel, etc.) or serve a preppy look (Think: Plaid, over-the-shoulder cardigan, tennis skirts).
I was stubborn, man. I didnāt want to choose just one aspect of this theme, so I chose to combine both. When I think of country club, I think of boarding school and that school-ish preppy. Country reminds me of Western Week in BeevilleāI need a bolo tie and a cowboy hat. I wanted to bring those elements together, but still make it whimsical and funāJanayacore, if you will.
I have a thrifted vest that has horses on the back and a horseshoe print on the front. Because the back was more visually interesting, I wore the back as the front of the vest. I put on another thrifted piece underneathā-my light blue button down with pearls decked out across the top of the shirt. Then, I paired it with my brickhouse red plaid skirt set. The color scheme with the rich reds, greens, browns, and blues played off of each other very well.
For my accessories, I wore one of my favorite purses, my clock purse. Then, I put on a bolo tie and a mini cowboy hat from an old costume. The finishing touch was my platform heels and sheer socks. The platforms look similar to a loafer, so I felt like it made sense for the country club aspect.
Sooooo a lot of people thought I was giving āAlice in Wonderlandā. Iām thinkin it was because of the baby cowboy hat, clock purse, and the big hair???? it still gave either way LOL. I love a good mad hatter/alice fashion reference, so I aināt mad at it.
Fun fact: this look was my LAST look in my undergraduate career + my last undergrad on-campus shoot (minus anythang graduation-related). I was kinda emotional about it ngl. On this day, we had a ceremony for the graduates of the School of Communication. It was nice to celebrate and kiki with my peers. S/o to the class of Fall ā22 <3.
Iāve done so many impromptu shoots and strutted so many times at Texas Southern. Thereās been several times I wore heels down the tiger walk on a normal dayāvery veryyyy daredevil-ish of me (IYKYK). It feels good to close this chapter in that look. Freshman year me would be so proud.
Best,
Your favorite TSU Alumna.
